Debussy and the Impressionists - Presented by Margaret Baxtresser

A concert program that brings to life the relationship of the music and paintings of one of the most exciting and dramatic periods in the history of the arts.

Pianist Margaret Baxtresser explores the enchanting, nature-filled world of Claude Debussy and the Impressionist Painters, a world in which Debussy´s landscapes for the ear transformed music, just as Monet´s new harmonies of light transformed art.

In this program, Debussy´s piano works, six Preludes, and L´Isle Joyeuse are accompanied by projections of paintings by Monet, Degas, and Renoir. The commentary and playing of short excerpts pre-engage the listener´s ear before hearing the entire piece. The program offers an imaginative alternative to the usual recital presentation.
